Connect Learning Centre Inc. (CLC) is well aware of the frustrations and adjustments that disability imposes and we are able to address this and also offer practical advice and solutions for a person to go forward in his or her life; for example, areas such as life skills, financial considerations, relationships, housing, etc.. This service will be provided through out the program at our centre located in Mississauga Ontario.
Due to both the cancellation of institutionalized programs and services and the extensive waiting lists for our existing programs, there is evidence that over 15% (Canadian Council on Social Development, 2006) of disabled individuals are failing to get the attention they need. Therefore, there is a great need for a program that would assist individuals coping with disabilities in Peel Region. An organization like CLC would bridge the gap for those in need of immediate assistance in their own community.
The key value of Connect Learning Centre Inc. (CLC) is to connect adults with disabilities and their families to an independent, dignified lifestyle.
Connect Learning Centre Inc. (CLC) is a Not- for- profit organization located in Peel region whose sole purpose is to provide exceptional service to adults with disabilities who want to lead an independent lifestyle. CLC's main objective is to make a difference in people's life and make our community a better place to live.
Melanie Taddeo CLC's Founder/Director founded the organization based on personal experience that, programs and services offering basic life skills training for individuals with disabilities were minimal or virtually nonexistent in the community. A personal pledge was made by the founder to establish a service that would offer programs geared towards making a difference in the lives of people affected by a disability, beyond the scope of existing agencies. CLC would bridge the gap between the services offered by existing agencies that simply offer "group" support and offer a more "personalized" environment which is necessary to be able to acquire the skills that allow one to be able to live independently in the community. Without specialized, individual, needs based service, our clientele can feel segregated and abandoned from the general non-disabled population. Ultimately, CLC would network with existing agencies and provide continued programming at a level that ensures that the individual and their families have the confidence to live with disability.
